Hello Sunshine... yeah, I wish!

Hi everyone!  Is it sunny where you are yet?  Not here that's for sure!  So why not dream a little?  Here is a happy cheery Hello Sunshine card.  I just love making felt flowers, they make me so happy and Spellbinders dies cuts through felt like butter!
The small flower in white felt is made from an oldie but goodie set, Bitty Blossoms and the yellow sunflower is from the Jewel Flowers and Flourishes set.  See the embossed aqua cardstock panels in the rays?  That was made with the Dainty Dots M-bossibilities folder.  I love that simple design and you can add so much texture by embossing just a few of the rays.
I double stamped the sentiment with gray and turquoise inks and outlined each sun ray panel with stickles.  Lastly I added some enamel dots for accents.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here is a close up picture of the flowers and embossing details.

Gina K Shabby Spring StampTV Kit Inspiration Blog Hop

Hi everyone!  Welcome to the Shabby Spring StampTV Kit Inspiration Blog Hop where we hope to inspire you with many beautiful ideas with the Stamp TV kit!  As you hop through the blogs, make sure to leave a comment on each because we will choose a few random commenters and they will win a grab bag of Gina's products!! To see the full list of winners check the Big News forum at Stamp TV a couple of days after the hops.

Here is the kit, Shabby Spring:
My first card uses one of the 3 adorable bird cage images.  I embossed it with silver EP, cut it out and adhered it using foam squares.
For my next card, I used the open lined flower and leaf images.  I stamped the flowers in Faded Brick and Sweet Corn and the leaves in Dark Sage of the GKD Color Companions ink.  I accented them with some enamel dots.  For the layout, I used an old challenge sketch from the challenge blog, Freshly Made Sketches.
Ready for the hop?  Check out all the amazing designs and inspiration:

CONGRATS!!! How exciting for you. Anxious to read the articles.
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congrats Bev!  Send me your address info and I will get your package out to you right away.  You can find my email info in the right column.

I also have a cute card to share today.  JustRite just released the most darling Owl set called Owl Be There.  As soon as I saw it, it jumped right into my shopping cart, oh yes I did!

To make the ombre frame I adhered 3/4" strips of blue cardstock together and die cut and embossed the Label shape.  Because Spellbinders dies have such a nice deep cutting edge, it cuts through the double layers with no problem.  Next I die cut the circle into the center.  (I realized afterwards I could have cut them both at the same time.)
I also did an embossed frame around the card front, which is easier than it looks.  Below I've shown that you layer the die with the cut side facing the cardstock and place them onto the rubber embossing mat and cover with the Base Plate.
Remember to place the cut side facing into the embossing mat, and you will emboss the impression into the cardstock every time!  I taped the die into place with washi tape to make sure it stayed in place.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Trend Watch -an exciting announcement!

Hi everyone!  You may remember when I returned from CHA, I posted a picture of me standing in front of the current Spring issue poster in the Paper Creations booth which featured my Easter cake project on the cover?
   Well...
I didn't have a chance to announce it at that time, but I've been asked to write a series of articles for Paper Creations called Trend Watch!  You'll see Trend Watch in all 4 issues of 2014 and I couldn't be more excited!  In the photo, see the bottom left column of the cover under "2 New Series!"?  Trend Watch...yep, that's me!  Seriously, this is a dream come true!

Each article will focus on a different paper crafting trend.  My first article focuses on paper flowers and how you can make them from your everyday circle and heart punches and dies.
Here is a sample of the projects I made for this issue using the heart shape.  The flowers range from very simple to complex (on the tag).  In each article you'll find very detailed instructions as well as step out photos.  Paper Creations is known for their instructions and is a perfect magazine for beginner crafters as well as advanced.
(photo from Paper Creations website slide show)

So how about a giveaway?  I have an extra copy of this issue to give away!  Just leave me a comment here on this post and I'll announce the winner on Monday, March 24th.  Oh and I *may* include a few more goodies in the package as well.

If your interested in buying Paper Creations, you can find it at Joann's, Walmart, Barnes & Noble and a few other stores, or you can always subscribe and 1 year (4 issues) subscription costs $19.97.

Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for the Summer, Fall and Winter Paper Creation issues and see what trend I will be writing about!

Thinking of You

Hi everyone!  I have a fun card to share today.  This one uses the new coffee cup image from JustRite and I kept this pretty simple and colored it just like the packaging showed.
I created the shape and simple frame on the front of the card by using nesting dies from the A2 Curved Matting Basics sets.  These are part of the Card Creator series of dies and are my favorites because of the simple curved corners.  Here is a link to all the Card Creater set of dies which come in basic and decorative sets.
The little flourish peeking out from the coffee cup is from the Floral Flourishes set!  I don't use those cuties nearly enough.  And the scalloped piece on the image panel is from the A2 Scalloped Borders set.
Here are the dies I used
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here is a close up detail picture.

Simple butterfly cards

Hi everyone!  I have a couple fun cards to share today!  Both use the gorgeous Les Papillions Two butterfly die set, framed by one of my favorite labels shapes, Labels Twenty and sentiments are from JustRite called Large Elegant Sentiments (a must have set!).
First up is a card I made using the M-Bossibilities folder Quilted Delight to emboss the top portion of the card.  The pattern paper I used on this is from MME, Tangerine with a strip of 1/8" velvet ribbon along the bottom.
Given this is a one layer card, I turned the folder sideways to emboss only the top portion of my pre-scored card.  I taped it down so it wouldn't slip and get a skewed result.
For my next card, I did some criss-cross scoring with my Scor-Buddy.  It shows you can get a great embossed detail even if you don't have any folders.  For this butterfly, I cut/embossed the top layer in vellum and added stickles to it.  I discovered that when stickles dries on vellum, it curls the paper.  So I manually curled it so the wings curled upward.  The pattern paper used on this is from Webster's Pages, Recorded.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!  Here is a close up of the vellum butterfly detail.

Happy birthday tag

Hi everyone!!  I have a fun birthday tag to share today.  To give my tag some texture, I cut it in the tag shape (which measures 4 1/2" x 2 1/4") and then embossed it with my Dotted Flowers M-bossibilities folder.  I love the embossed pattern as a back drop for my blossom.
Then I busted out my much neglected felt and alternated my layers with felt and pattern paper.  I get asked all the time if Spellbinders dies cut through felt and the answer is YES!  The dies are deeply etched and cuts felt beautifully!  The bloom is made with both the Blossom and Standard Circles dies.
Here are some of the supplies I used on the tag.
Here is the Dotted Flowers folder.  I used Side A for my tag, but the great thing about these folders is they are double sided and you get 2 in 1!!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!  Here is a close up of the embossing detail.
